Fair Fight 03:44
Fair Fight Every time I see you, you're spreading lies like seeds Mouthful of fertilizer, fear and hate sprouting like weeds Every time I hear you, talking so big and strong You got some well paid muscle, watching your back, flooding your swamp I'm praying for those golden days, they wipe your dirty deeds away Lock you up, make you pay, until they do, all I can say is Don't tell me that's a fair fight - Don't tell me I'm wrong and you're right Might work on most sheep But can't pull wool over these eyes Don't tell me that's a fair fight - Don't tell me I'm wrong and you're right Might work on most sheep But can't pull wool over these eyes Bribing judge and jury, kicking folks on their knees Yelling like a red faced mad-man, stealing our land, chopping down trees I'm praying for those golden days, they wipe your dirty deeds away Lock you up, make you pay, until they do, all I can say is Don't tell me that's a fair fight - Don't tell me I'm wrong and you're right Might work on most sheep But can't pull wool over these eyes Don't tell me that's a fair fight - Don't tell me I'm wrong and you're right Might work on most sheep But can't pull wool over these eyes Trumped up treason, hearts grown cold - Our fearless leaders bought and sold Mind spin seasons, growing old - Here come those dirty tricks again, yeah! Don't tell me that's a fair fight - Don't tell me I'm wrong and you're right Might work on most sheep But can't pull wool over these eyes Don't tell me that's a fair fight - Don't tell me I'm wrong and you're right Might work on most sheep But can't pull wool over these eyes I'm praying for those golden days, they wipe your dirty deeds away Lock you up, make you pay, until they do, all I can say is Don't tell me that's a fair fight - Don't tell me I'm wrong and you're right Might work on most sheep But can't pull wool over these eyes Don't tell me that's a fair fight - Don't tell me I'm wrong and you're right Might work on most sheep But can't pull wool over these eyes But can't pull wool over these eyes But can't pull wool over these eyes

Scarecrow Blues Boulders screaming down the mountains Mud slides ripping up the roads Hope this house can keep us safe Pray these levees hold Thunder echoes in the valley Lighting blazes through the dark Windows shake like rattle snakes Fear cuts through our hearts Oh Lord, got those scarecrow blues Like a rag doll flung around and chewed By wild dogs, there's nothing left to do But hang tight, keep myself alive Until the worst is through Moved here looking for some weather Sunny California skies Now I miss those stone cold grey East Coast winter nights Oh Lord, got those scarecrow blues Like a rag doll flung around and chewed By wild dogs, there's nothing left to do But hang tight, keep myself alive Until the worst is through River's rising Floods flash for my eyes Neighbor's yard a battle scar Just have to make it through the night Oh Lord, got those scarecrow blues Like a rag doll flung around and chewed By wild dogs, there's nothing left to do But hang tight, keep myself alive Until the worst is through Oh Lord, got those scarecrow blues Oh Lord, got those scarecrow blues Oh Lord, got those scarecrow blues

Monster of the Year
TV murder mugshots meld your mind Rabid ragging rat dogs guard your home Twisted takedown tailors know your size They cut twice for just your type  A hundred hate fake photos flood your phone
You let them rob your eyes and ears You let them drive your kids to tears You let them kick you out of paradise
You've become the monster that you fear Haven't laughed or smiled since I've been here You've become a monster wired and weird Where did teen spirit go? You've become the monster of the year!
Got the saddest place in this whole town Angry right wing yard signs, scream your mind   Cheating politicians hold you down Neighbors keep their distance now You fight with random strangers half the night
You let them rob your eyes and ears You let them drive your kids to tears You let them kick you out of paradise
You've become the monster that you fear Haven't laughed or smiled since I've been here You've become a monster wired and weird Where did teen spirit go? You've become the monster of the year!
Used to live a life of joy Then you met them good old boys Now acts of random kindness, make you so mad
You've become the monster that you fear Haven't laughed or smiled since I've been here You've become a monster wired and weird Where did teen spirit go? You've become the monster of the year!

Lost Boy 03:11
Lost Boy There are places, I can't go with you Though I wish I could be there too Lay awake at night and pray Doing all I can, swaying what I can sway Helpless, flailing like a bird, in wind Up against things, I just can't bend Trying to be there, strong for you Thoughts so plenty, deeds too few Lost boy where do I go to find you? Lost boy when are you coming back? Lost boy, what's going on inside you? What's the magic word? What riddle must I crack? Hitting up against a hairpin curb Tires screeching those hate filled words Praying hard for kinder days Healing wonders, deeds I can praise Lost boy where do I go to find you? Lost boy when are you coming back? Lost boy, what's going on inside you? What's the magic words? What riddles I must crack? There are places, I can't go with you Though I wish I could be there too Lay awake at night and pray Doing all I can, swaying what I can sway

Anchors up, let out the sails Steal yourself for a real rough ride Batten down between the rails 20 knots against the tide I've been dreaming of distant seas Saint Elmo's fire, salt stung eyes Can't wait to smell that stiff ocean breeze I am shipping outbound, clear and free I am shipping outbound, no chains on me I am shipping outbound, my destiny To sail the seven seas Wicked waves, monster winds Blow in deathly doldrum days Native tongues of mermaid twins Sights and sounds of renegades Is that land or just a dream? An angry kraken or whitecap haze? Razor teeth, or just some bark stripped trees? I am shipping outbound, clear and free I am shipping outbound, no chains on me I am shipping outbound, my destiny To sail the seven seas Don't mind scurvy or ship shape rats Spending all night up in the flags Endless flogging and keelhaul drags It's all good with me I am shipping outbound, clear and free I am shipping outbound, no chains on me I am shipping outbound, my destiny To sail the seven seas I am shipping outbound, clear and free I am shipping outbound, no chains on me I am shipping outbound, my destiny To sail the seven seas

If I Don't See You Tomorrow There are bonds that last forever That break through walls of hurt and pain Every night when I sing your song I picture your warm smiling face Just know that I'm still out there fighting To get back to the home we made If I don't see you tomorrow I'll see you some bright sunny day If I don't see you tomorrow And I wasn't here today Doesn't mean that I don't love you It just means I could not stay If I don't see you tomorrow And you feel all left alone You should know I'm always thinking About your day and our sweet home If I don't see you tomorrow And your skies turn black and grey Just know the sun is always fighting To break through your dark cloudy day If I don't see you tomorrow And I wasn't here today Doesn't mean that I don't love you It just means I could not stay If I don't see you tomorrow And you feel all left alone You should know I'm always thinking About your day and our sweet home

Azalea 04:43
Azalea Way out in the ocean, drifting far and wide Never seen sails so sad, not a breath of breeze tonight Deep down in the doldrums, fighting for my life Got to catch a stiff gust soon Get back home, set things right
Hear a voice cut through the waves, but it's far too dark to see Might be calling out my name Could be going crazy, but sounds like you're in reach
Azalea, Azalea Sweet songs swimming closer, coming to rescue me Azalea, Azalea Hear your cries across the water, coming to set me free
Last time I saw you, wind was at your back Pushed you too far, too quickly, I couldn't move, sinking so fast Hard time reflection, clarified my mind You need a man more righteous Much better me, a whole other guy
I'll be safe and sorry, hard ground 'neath my feet I'll say how much I love you, get down on my knees We'll put the past behind us, cut our anchors free Tell 'em we're headed back out Sail the seven seas

Done With You I'm so happy be done with you Free and clear of your fickle moods Endless bicker, bitter breach of trust I'm so happy be done with you I'm so happy you snuck away Found another to chain yourself to Can't imagine why I cried that day I'm so happy be done with you Don't keep waiting for equivocation Twist of heart, reconciliation Don't wait for me to sing the blues I'm so happy be done with you I'm so happy to be done with you Nightmare's over, my dream's come true Laugh at your photo five times a day I'm so happy be done with you Don't keep waiting for equivocation Twist of heart, reconciliation Don't wait for me to sing the blues I'm so happy be done with you Skies are clearing, sun pours in Rainbow's on the rise Just took your leaving, open up my eyes Don't keep waiting for equivocation Twist of heart, reconciliation Don't wait for me to sing the blues I'm so happy be done with you I'm so happy to be done with you Stick a fork in it, start anew Don't go thinking, I protest too much I'm so happy to be done with you I'm so happy to be done with you I'm so happy to be done with you

Against The Law If you don’t look just right And wear our colors loud and bright It’s against the Law It’s against the Law If you don’t think like me And try to rewrite history It’s against the Law It’s against the Law If you don’t act conform And deviation is your norm It’s against the Law It’s against the Law If you try to speak your mind And complain about us all the time It’s against the Law It’s against the Law Smells of confusion Drift through this land Divisions of neighbor Pure gold in our hands If your work is a slacking off And your nerves are getting soft It’s against the Law It’s against the Law If your boys don’t join our band And follow us out to foreign lands It’s against the Law It’s against the Law If you can’t take no more And keep swinging from the floor It’s against the Law It’s against the Law If you want to end it all And try to check out before your called It’s against the Law It’s against the Law Smells of confusion Drift through this land Divisions of neighbor Pure gold in our hands If you don’t look just right And wear our colors loud and bright It’s against the Law It’s against the Law

about

Adrenaline Junky (2022) by Jay Ottaway and The Lost Boys

Adrenaline Junky is the first album by Jay Ottaway and The Lost Boys a German-American band which was formed in 2019. The band is led by Jay Ottaway, a Boston-based singer-songwriter and guitarist who has toured and released 10 albums in Europe over the last two decades. The quartet features guitarist Guido Lehmann, who has played throughout Europe with the bands Hillbilly Deluxe and The Swamptones. The rhythm section consists of drummer Wolfgang Stölzle, who is well known for his work with The Mavericks and the Ramones cover band De Ramönsche as well as Henrik Herzmann, who made his name playing bass in bands such as HB & the Random Players and the Peter Lorenz Band. While COVID limited the ability of the band to tour together for the last two years, they did manage to write and arrange together through the magic of the internet and a one-week recording binge session in their rehearsal studio in Leverkusen, Germany, in August of 2021. The band is very pleased with the results and excited to share their new music with the world.

Adrenaline Junky moves smoothly through blues-rock, country, southern rock, and straight-up rock ’n’ roll to make the old sound new and the new sound familiar. The album’s first track, “Fair Fight”, is a Bo-Diddly-beat blues lament about the insidious hold contemporary biased news and political forces have on our political landscape. The second song and title track “Adrenaline Junky” is a power blues that came from back stage discussions about the post-tour crash of adrenaline experienced by musicians when the sugar rush of playing live music is replaced with real-life drudgery. “Scarecrow Blues” is a southern rock influenced piece about a friend who moved to California for the weather and found himself and his house threatened by fires and mudslides. “Monster of the Year” is a power pop piece with a Neil Young-snarl, reflecting the radicalization of the political fringes and the polarization of U.S. politics. “Lost Boy” and “If I Don’t See You Tomorrow” are singer-songwriter country-tinged ballads lamenting a father’s inability to connect with his son. “Sail the Seven Seas” and “Azalea” are rock anthems inspired by the nautical historical fiction novels of Patrick O’Brien. “Done With You” is a political satirical work dressed up as a song about the joy and relief felt at the end of a bad relationship. Rounding out the album, and coming full circle, is “Against the Law” which, while written in 2003, sadly still reflects the growing intolerance of today’s civil society.

Adrenaline Junky was produced by The Lost Boys together with the Cologne-based veteran sound engineer, Pit Lenz. The album is a band album through and through, with the quartet of Jay Ottaway, Guido Lehmann, Henrik Herzmann and Wolfgang Stölzle writing and playing and singing every note. The group was happy to have the tracks mastered in Nashville by James DeMain at Yes Master Studios. All the songs were written by frontman Jay Ottaway, except “If I Don’t See You Tomorrow” which was written by Jay Ottaway and lead guitarist Guido Lehmann.

Adrenaline Junky is available for download and in CD format at jayottaway.bandcamp.com and is streaming on all major streaming platforms. More info on Jay Ottaway and The Lost Boys at www.jayottawayandthelostboys.com
