Fresh Ride 02:37
Fresh Ride Jay Ottaway It's high time For a fresh ride Warp drive engine Space chase mind bend Raging fires Roar like choirs Flooded cities End of history We need new wings Drag us up from this drain Light speed distance From earth's, ball and chain Chartered life boat Best hope's last rope Star child calling Holdouts stalling We need new wings Drag us up from this drain Light speed distance From earth's, ball and chain Relocation Shelter from heat and rain Pollination, seed space stations Only ourselves to blame It's high time For a fresh ride Fresh ride ah ohh...

World on fire, ashes buzzing around like flies Flames and flares, watch our memories disappear Funeral pyre, dancing smoke fills up the sky Turn and run, feel the heat of a thousand suns Twist and squirm, see our fears dug up like worms Paradise, moans and melts before our eyes Wood trembling Roots are torn Air so tough to breathe Leaves crackling like a lighting rod Embers burn our naked feet World on fire, forests dreams lie petrified World on fire, gates of hell have open wide Never learn, every spark can be a curse No concern, break the rules now watch us burn Woods trembling Roots are torn Air so tough to breathe Leaves crackling like lighting rods Embers burn our naked feet World on fire, forests dreams lie petrified World on fire, gates of hell have open wide Sift through ashes in morning light Blink through smoke that stings our eyes Hang on hopes - What might survive? Afraid to look and see! World on fire, forests dreams lie petrified World on fire, gates of hell have open wide World on fire, forests dreams lie petrified World on fire, gates of hell have open wide

New Horizons 04:07
Feel like a fly, stuck on my ceiling Looking down on, jewels of life Son and daughter, wife so soundly sleeping Wondering what our, future hides I hear cries, fights on winter weekends Tension rise, decisions slide But there's laughter, hugs and hand-held squeezing Tired smiles, make up lies New horizons - Terrifying - Whipping by like blizzard snow New horizons - Death defying - So many ways this can go! Shape shifting time, life and loving freedom Future's born, past is trapped Flying blind through wild wicked weekends Fighting hard, to stay on track New horizons - Terrifying - Whipping by like blizzard snow New horizons - Death defying - So many ways this can go! Cold hard nights, frost bites in the orchard Grace and warmth, ease the pain New horizons keep us moving forward New horizons keep us sane New horizons - Terrifying - Whipping by like blizzard snow New horizons - Death defying - So many ways this can go! New horizons - Terrifying - Whipping by like blizzard snow New horizons - Death defying - So many ways this can go! Feel like a fly, stuck on my ceiling Looking down on, jewels of life Son and daughter, wife so soundly sleeping Wondering what our, future hides

Listen 03:30
Listen to your heartbeat, banging on a drum Bringing back songs you once owned Listen to that trembling voice, crackling in your lungs Singing out to strangers far from home Listen to that wild wind wail, hellish high-pitched tones Screaming in your ears like jealous gods Listen to those howling dogs, hungry to the bone Nipping at the heels of angry mobs Smell the blood your good earth craves Hear crows and ravens rage Feel the ground shake beneath your feet Listen to your conscience sigh about sticks and stones Breaking bones in your name in their world Listen to those haunted cries, drift around like smoke Calling out to long lost boys and girls See the gates of paradise Open up before your eyes Then flush out all your memories Listen to their heartache, banging on a drum Pounding at your ears until they're numb Listen to your old man tell, how the West was won With grit and germs, swords and mighty guns
5.
Got a gun inside my pocket White flag in my hand Got a gun inside my pocket So much danger in this land Either make my peace with strangers Or find a place to make my stand Got trouble right behind me Hard road up ahead Got trouble right behind me Taking names and making threats Better outrun all my troubles Or play the martyr game instead This side of paradise There's a war of words, ringing through our minds Divide and conquer, divert attention from our lives Didn't shoot a man in Reno Didn't rob a bank out West Didn't shoot a man in Reno Didn't wring that poor fool's neck But I spoke some truth to power Now they say I'm good as dead Accusations fly In a world of fear, where hate and anger thrives Blame the victim, paint the world all black and white Got a gun inside my pocket White flag in my hand Got a gun inside my pocket So much danger in this land Either make my peace with strangers Or find a place to make a stand Got a gun inside my pocket So much danger in this land Got a gun inside my pocket!

The Night Tripper Julian Mueller/Jay Ottaway Big Easy boy, with 88 fingers Made sweet wild sounds, that could groove and linger Played like a bandit down in New Orleans Grew up on Satch-mo, Little Richard and Slim Had Bayou voodoo soaked into him So wild and hairy, so pleasant and clean Dr. John is gone He left but his music plays on, on and on Dr. John is gone but The Night Tripper lives on Through his songs - Dr. John ain't gone Played with the cajuns, minstrels and hippies Blues, Jazz and rock since the late 1950s His melodies as smooth as succulent wine Los Angeles loved him, a hero to many A flamboyant show for the milk and the honey Fare thee well too early - right place, wrong time Dr. John is gone He left but his music plays on, on and on Dr. John is gone but The Night Tripper lives on Through his songs - Dr. John ain't gone Old Medicine man, where did you go? Are you looking down from a Mardi Gras float? Dr. John is gone He left but his music plays on, on and on Dr. John is gone He left but his music plays on, through his songs Dr. John ain't gone
7.
Broken Flag Poles Jay Ottaway Another wild wicked storm Rage above our roofless heads Tethers rip, rivers roar A hundred levees to defend I wonder how we dare to hope When darkness fills our dirty air Beyond the bounds of any scope Too much for one, to grin and bare Broken flag poles, twist in the wind Storm clouds blot the sun Another war has just begun Another first stone has been cast By sinners deaf to all they've done Strangers write our epitaphs Steal the freedom we had won Broken flag poles, twist in the wind Storm clouds blot the sun Another war has just begun Who will save them from themselves? After all they have done Who will heal their angry minds? Make them see what they've become Broken flag poles, twist in the wind Storm clouds blot the sun Another war has just begun

Love in the Time of Hate Jay Ottaway/ Julian Müller Love in the time of hate It's so hard to contemplate With blood stains splattered on the wall Love in the time of war Wondering what we’re angry for But grateful for each bated breath Love in the time of death A violent world, we reject What matters most, crystal clear Love in the time of fear Acts of kindness seem so weird Defying hatred with each kiss Love shines in darkest hours I feel it on my skin Hope thaws the coldest heart Lord blow, the warm wind in! Love in the line of fire Snared inside barbs of wire Fighting for honor every day Love in the time of hate Wake up now it's not too late! Kick their fiction, out of our heads Love shines in darkest hours I feel it on my skin Hope thaws the coldest heart Lord blow, the warm wind in! Love in the time of hate Wake up now it's not too late! Kick their fiction, out of our heads Love in the time of hate Wake up now it's not too late! Love in the time of hate Wake up now!!

Starbound 03:46
Blast off I hear the future calling Interstellar winds beckon me Outside a billion stars are burning Strange and wondrous fires, now within our reach I'm heading star-bound at warp speed I'm on the first seed from earth's tree I am heading star-bound at warp speed Star-bound ecstasy! Gas clouds, spinning planets forming Budding life, swimming in the seas Starlight ignites fresh creation Chasing out the dark, brewing air to breathe I'm heading star-bound at warp speed I'm on the first seed from earth's tree I am heading star-bound at warp speed Star-bound ecstasy! Never thought we'd live to see the day Travel to the stars Masters of our fate! I'm heading star-bound at warp speed I'm on the first seed from earth's tree I am heading star-bound at warp speed Star-bound ecstasy! Lights flash, colors melt around me Ridding waves of cosmic gravity Can't wait, walk new worlds with these feet Far away from home, distant galaxy I'm heading star-bound at warp speed I'm on the first seed from earth's tree I am heading star-bound at warp speed Star-bound ecstasy! I'm heading star-bound at warp speed I'm on the first seed from earth's tree I am heading star-bound at warp speed Star-bound ecstasy!

Send Daddy home Where he belongs Resting peaceful in his chair Feet by the fire Kids by his side Taking comfort from his storm Outside it roars Rains and it pours Miss his calm, steady hand Send my regards To his prison guards Folks he once called friends One cold, dreary day They came, ripped him away Leaving darkness in his wake Hand him a phone Leave him alone Let me soak up his last words In a scratchy, weary voice He pleads with me Don't be the man I was Find some inner peace Tell my old man Do what I can But only so much I can take Send Daddy home Send Daddy home Send him home, where he belongs
11.
I Don't Know 03:25
I don't know which way to go If I'm close or really far If there's comfort down the road If I'll get there in this car I don't know if it's for me If the stars are so aligned Will this journey bring me peace? Is the invitation mine? So hard to see through your glass framed maze Scratched up and blackened by dying flames Raising expectations, then getting up and blowing the wool away I don't know what's in your heart If you’re cool with where we stand Are you trying to raise the bar? Do you need another man? So hard to see through your glass framed maze Scratched up and blackened by dying flames Raising expectations, then getting up and blowing the wool away I don't know if I should ask Should I really be concerned? Do you think that it could last? Are we set to crash and burn? I don't know quite where I am Never bothered me before Now it makes me kind of mad Feel like dashing out the door I don't know, I just don't know - I don't know, I just don't know I don't know, I just don't know - I don't know, I just don't know!
12.
Even More 04:18
Even more than paradise Making love 'neath starry skies Even more than summer nights Even more, I'd sacrifice Even more than hard-earned praise Labor's fruits, fresh-won fame Even more than pride of place Even more, I'd gladly trade Even more than steady hands Healthy eyes, legs that dance Even more than all our plans Even more, than you could stand Even more than sanity Even more than hearts that sing Even more than love at first sight Even more than comfort zones Even more than our sweet home Even more than castles in the sky Even more than paradise Making love 'neath starry skies Even more than summer nights Even more, I'd sacrifice, Even more, even more

World on Fire - Deutsch

World on Fire - English

With blazes raging out West, COVID spreading like fire all over the
world and politics as hot and dangerous as ever, Jay Ottaway’s
“World On Fire" is a song collection for our times. Produced and
arranged by Julian Müller (Blackberries, Suzan K cher’s Suprafon)
the songs on this album invoke an early angry Bob Dylan, a never
mellowed Neil Young, or even the melancholic works of Robert
Hunter and Jerry Garcia performed by the Grateful Dead.
The album blasts off with “Fresh Ride,” a prayer for salvation and a
fresh start through space-aged escape vehicles.

Later “Starbound” continues the theoretical journey and imagines
humanity finally reaching distant planets far away from a wounded
earth. The title track “Word On Fire,” a song written for friends affected by
the California wildfires and “Broken Flag Poles,” mirror the dystopian
tendencies in our political and natural environment that are worth
traveling to the ends of the universe to escape. The stress that the
current political heat puts on human relationships is the subject of
“Love in the Time of Hate” a song co-written by Jay Ottaway and
Julian Müller

From the macro of galactic travel to the micro of family life: The
songs “New Horizons” and “I Don’t Know” reflect the ups, downs and
side-wides of family life and relationships.
Providing an unromantic look at our past is “Listen” which invokes
the ghosts and the trails of tears of Native Americans who suffered or
died on force migrations. “Gun Inside My Pocket” and “Send Daddy
Home” lament the violent world which we so created where violence
is the go-to tool to control and manipulate entire populations.
The album takes a detour to New Orleans for “Night Tripper,” another
song co-written by Jay Ottaway and Julian Müller. It honors the late
great Dr. John (Malcolm John Rebennach Jr.) who influenced an
entire generation of performers and songwriters before his recent
passing in June 2019.

The CD ends with “Even More” a melancholic look at self-sacrifice
and resilience of the human heart during our current hard times.
